Adriana Orsulak, 39, wife of Orioles player

February 11, 2004

Adriana Orsulak, the wife of former Orioles right fielder Joe Orsulak and a homemaker, died yesterday of brain cancer at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium. The Cockeysville resident was 39.

Born Adriana Venditti in Cali, Colombia, and raised in Venezuela, she married Mr. Orsulak in 1988 after moving to Tampa, Fla.

The couple had met in 1983 in Valencia, Venezuela, while Mr. Orsulak was playing winter-league baseball. She was then a 19-year-old student.

"She was a great mother who cared about her kids more than anything. The doctors gave her one to two years to live, and she lived 10," Mr. Orsulak said. "Her goal was to live long enough so her sons would remember her. She was tough."

The family will receive visitors from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road, where services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are their two sons, Joseph, 14, and Michael, 11; her mother, Olga Venditti of Cockeysville; a brother, Angelo Venditti of Bel Air; and a sister, Sandra Uptagrafft of Houston.
