Married couple identified as victims of house fire

EDGEMERE - The house fire that killed a married couple Thursday afternoon started in the kitchen, where a pot was left unattended on a stove, Baltimore County fire officials said yesterday.

The victims of the fire in the waterfront home in the 7400 block of Bay Front Road were identified yesterday as Richard Krull, 47, and Robin Krull, 41. The deaths were ruled accidental by fire investigators, said Elise Armacost, a Fire Department spokeswoman.

FOR THE RECORD - An article in Saturday's editions misspelled the name of a couple killed in a house fire Feb. 5 in Edgemere. Richard and Robin Kroll died in the fire.

"This is a tragic reminder that you need to keep an eye on cooking in the kitchen at all times," Armacost said.

Washington man sentenced for fake-ID operation

A Washington man who authorities said ran a sophisticated identification counterfeiting operation from a Columbia motel was sentenced yesterday to 27 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $26,516 in restitution to credit card companies and banks he admitted defrauding.

Calvin McCants, 54, pleaded guilty last month in U.S. District Court in Baltimore to possessing device-making equipment. Investigators discovered in August what they called a "counterfeit plant" that McCants was operating from an extended-stay motel in Columbia.

During a search of McCants' room, authorities found five laptop computers, printers, a credit card printer and cutter as well an embossing machine and counterfeit Discover, Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards.
