WINE OF THE WEEK

February 04, 2004|By Michael Dresser

2002 Talomas Chardonnay-Viognier, Central Coast ($15). Talomas, a California collaboration of the Napa Valley's Robert Mondavi winery and Australian winemaker Bob Oatley, has produced a lively and appealing white wine by blending chardonnay with the Rhone Valley variety viognier. Though it's very dry, it's also quite fruity - with vibrant flavors of melon, tropical fruit, pears, white pepper and even a hint of cherry. It offers a clean, long finish. This would be excellent with seafood or simply served by itself.
