Howard hospital approved to perform urgent angioplasty

The Institutional Review Board of Johns Hopkins Medicine granted approval last month to Howard County General Hospital to participate in Maryland's Cardiovascular Patient Outcomes Research Team project.

The project is a research registry that allows immediate angioplasty treatment for patients experiencing certain types of heart attacks.

The hospital's participation will permit heart attack victims who would otherwise have to be transported to another facility to receive emergency angioplasty at the Columbia hospital.

The hospital participated in the project on a conditional basis from Sept. 5 through Nov. 30 before being approved for continuing participation.

Food packaging group opens new facility

Maryland Food Packaging, a provider of contract food packaging services, has opened a new facility in the Troy Hill Commerce Center in Elkridge.

The move to the 50,000- square-foot facility will provide more space and better access to major roads.

Discovery Health anchor offers talk Wednesday

The Columbia-based Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association will sponsor "Natural Vitality and Wellness: A Winning Combination to Improve Life Balance and Enhance Success," a talk by Dr. Andrea Pennington, anchor for the Discovery Health Channel and host of Amazing Baby Videos.

The event will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Otsuka America Pharmaceutical Inc. 2440 Research Blvd., Rockville. Services were contributed by Laurel Marketing & Design, London Litho Services and Columbia MedCom Group.

The HBA, a national not-for-profit organization that serves women and men, is dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in health care.
