Evelyn V. Strausburg, 85, Social Security supervisor

Evelyn Virginia Strausburg, a retired Social Security Administration supervisor and recreational boater, died Jan. 25 at Hospice House in Easton of cancer. The St. Michaels resident was 85.

Born Evelyn Virginia Spurry in St. Michaels, she was a 1935 graduate of St. Michaels High School. After her 1940 marriage to Charles Roscoe Strausburg, a Bethlehem Steel welder who died in 1977, she moved to East Baltimore and later lived in Baltimore County.

She worked at the Social Security Administration from 1945 to 1976, retiring as director of congressional inquiries.

Mrs. Strausburg and her husband sailed for many years on the Chesapeake Bay and along the East Coast and in the Midwest. They won numerous sailing awards, including the 1953 national championship held in Chicago for Penguin sailboats.

Mrs. Strausburg belonged to the St. Michaels Fire Department Auxiliary.

Services were held Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church in St. Michaels.

Survivors include a son, Vance C. Strausburg of St. Michaels; a sister, Maye Soulsman of Fallston; and a grandson.
