County school board to hold hearing on budget tomorrow

The Howard County Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow on the superintendent's proposed fiscal year 2005 operating budget.

The hearing will be held in the boardroom at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

Those who want to testify are asked to limit the presentation to three minutes and provide 15 written copies of their testimony at the hearing.

The public is encouraged to participate. To sign up, contact the executive assistant to the board at 410-313-7197.The board will hold a retreat from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Patapsco Manor, 5695 Main St., Elkridge.

Members sought to serve on boundary-line panel

The Howard County public school system is seeking people interested in serving on the Board of Education's School Boundary Line Advisory Committee.

The committee assists in developing and evaluating boundary-line adjustments. This year's committee will focus on the boundary lines associated with the opening of the county's 12th high school, which is to open in Marriottsville next year.

Prospective members must be ages 21 or older and live in Howard County. Members of the committee will be selected after an interview process.

Anyone interested in being considered for membership on the committee should submit a letter of interest detailing relevant strengths and experience by March 1 to Howard County Public Schools, Attn: David C. Drown, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City 21042.
