In latest shooting, man is wounded, dies in hospital

An unidentified man was fatally shot and a woman was wounded as they drove on a snow-covered street in the Cherry Hill neighborhood yesterday morning - the first of two slayings for the day reported by city police.

The man was driving a sport utility vehicle in the 2700 block of Giles Ave. when someone approached the truck about 11 a.m. and opened fire, killing the man and wounding the woman,police said. His female passenger was rushed to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday evening, police said.

About 7 p.m. Northern District officers investigating a reported shooting in the 5100 block of Kenilworth Ave. found the latest victim - an unidentified man - lying in the street andbleeding from a gunshot wound. He died soon after at Johns Hopkins Hospital, police said.

The killings pushed this month's homicide total to 18.

The Cherry Hill attack occurred justa few blocks from the apparently unrelated slaying of 42-year-old Shella Renee Christian, 42, and the serious wounding of her 6-year-old son in their rowhouse.

The boy, whom police declined to identify, was listed in critical condition yesterday at the pediatric intensive care unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital.police said.

Police officials described the killing as a brutal knife attack. Friends knocked on her Christian's door in the 900 block of Seagull Ave. about 10 a.m. Sunday, and Christian'sher son answered, police said.

The boy had suffered a slashing wound to his neck and was unable to speak, said police, who added that he was being guarded by officers at Johns Hopkins.

They believe the attack occurred sometimeFriday night or Saturday morning and added that there did not appear to be anysigns of forced entry at the home., Police are alsoinvestigating two other fatal shootings. They identified Franklin D. Sadler, 40, of the 300 block of Bentalou AveSt. as the man found slain in the 100 block of Willard St. on Friday.

They also identified Perrin A. Spruill, 32, of the 2200 block of Sidney Ave. as the person whowasfatally shot Saturday in that block.

In addition, police disclosed said yesterday that they arrested a 34-year-old man Friday afternoon in the drowning deathof his brother in his Northwest Baltimore apartment.

Police said that they charged Morris R. Williams of the 4000 block of Kathland Ave. with first-degree murder in the killing of his brother, Gary Lamont Williams, 35.

Gary Williams' body was discovered by police in the bathtub of his brother's apartment Friday afternoon, police said.

Police said Morris Williams drowned his brother in the bathtub after a fight over money Jan. 16.
