On Friday January 23, 2004 THOMAS I. SMITH SR., of Duncannon, formerly of New Park, died at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Kern) Smith to whom he was married for 45 years. Mr. Smith was born in Hanover on November 17, 1933, son of the late Charles E. and Helena M. (Mattingly) Smith. Mr. Smith is also survived by three sons, Patrick R. Smith, of Garland, TX., David M. Smith of Fawn Grove and Thomas I. Smith Jr., of New Freedom, six grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. He was a retired owner of the former Tom's Super Thrift in Delta. He was formerly employed as a retail field counselor for PA & S. Small Company. He was a former member and chairman of the board of the Mid-Atlantic Food Dealers Assoc., and the York County Meat Dealers Assn., and also a former board member of the National Grocers Assn., and the Penn State Atomic Energy Committee, he was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Mission, 1952 graduate of York Catholic High School, Knights of Columbus Council 1530, Newport American Legion and a former member and past president of the Mason Dixon Lions Club. A Requiem Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church Mission, 129 S. Beaver St., York, with the Rev. Philip Stark as celebrant. Viewings will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, at the John W. Keffer Funeral Home, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, with a Rosary recitation at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with full military honors.
