Goldie E. Ellis, 84, department store waitress

Goldie E. Ellis, a retired department store waitress, died of cancer Jan. 15 at her niece's Glen Burnie home. The Southwest Baltimore resident was 84.

Born Goldie Elizabeth Pinkard in Anne Arundel County, she attended county public schools.

After working as a waitress in downtown Baltimore, she switched to the old Maryland Gardens restaurant in Hutzler's Westview store about 1960. She retired in 1987.

Mrs. Ellis was a Bon Secours Hospital volunteer, and enjoyed traveling, theater, gardening, knitting and baking.

Her husband of 34 years, Stanley Ellis, a stevedore, died in 1985.

Services were held Tuesday at Strawbridge United Methodist Church in Bolton Hill, where she was a member, usher and Communion steward. She also worked for the church's food and clothing drives.

Survivors include many nephews and nieces, including Goldie Oden, with whom she lived.
