Marking Chinese New Year

Howard Live

January 22, 2004

The Chinese Language School of Columbia will present a free celebration of the Chinese New Year for all ages from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Howard County Central Library.

Chinese yo-yo demonstrations are planned for 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Children can make monkey masks, in celebration of the Year of the Monkey; learn to tie Chinese knots; and participate in a chopstick game. Participants may have their names translated into Chinese and written on bookmarks. A Chinese arts-and-crafts exhibit has been on display at the library since Jan. 5.

The Chinese year 4701 begins today.

The central library is at 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

Information: 410-313-7880.
