25,000 square feet of model trains

The Great Scale Model Train Show will be chugging into the Cow Palace at the Maryland State Fairgrounds this weekend with more than 25,000 square feet of operating model train sets.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, dealers from around the nation will be offering model trains, sets, equipment and related items for sale on more than 650 tables. Train-themed cartoons and feature films will be showing throughout while demonstrations and skill-building clinics will be scheduled daily for amateur and serious hobbyists seeking to improve their modeling abilities.

Admission is $6 for both days; family admission is $12 and children under 12 are admitted free. The Maryland State Fairgrounds are at 2200 York Road, Timonium. Call 410-730-1036 or visit www.gsmts.com.

Family Fun Night at the Aquarium

Skip the crowds and explore the National Aquarium in Baltimore with the whole family at tomorrow's after-hours Family Fun Night.

The event, which runs 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m., will include a guided tour of the museum and an opportunity to interact with marine life. Kids will get to hold and pet creatures such as starfish, horseshoe crabs and hermit crabs.

Snacks will be served at the event, which is geared to ages 4-7 with an adult.

Chocolate Festival returns to Bel Air

A sweet indulgence awaits chocolate lovers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bel Air National Guard Armory, which is the site of this year's Annual Bel Air Downtown Chocolate Festival. More than 20 vendors will be offering a wide variety of chocolate confections and beverages for tasting and for sale. The event will include a raffle for items such as gift certificates at stores, free rounds of golf and a free stay at the Kent Manor Inn.

Admission is $5 and includes five free bite-sized samples at any of the vendors. More admission tickets may be purchased for more tastes. The Bel Air Armory is at 37 N. Main St. Call 410-638-1023 for more information.
