Cook lifts Bowie State by Va. Union

In a rematch of last season's Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association title game, Bowie State took control of the league's Eastern Division last night with a thrilling 87-82 victory over Virginia Union at Jordan Arena.

Bowie is 9-1 in the division while Virginia Union fell to 5-2.

Forward Lee Cook had 22 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and scored the final four as the Bulldogs sealed the win in the final minute.

Cook also had a game-high 17 rebounds, six assists and three blocks.

Anton Jenifer (Walbrook, Morgan State) added 19 points and Allen Van Norden had 17 for Bowie, which had a 51-25 rebounding advantage.


Virginia Union 81, Bowie State 72: The Panthers (14-2, 7-0) went on a 10-0 run with 3:12 remaining to break a 69-69 tie as they defeated the host Bulldogs (8-11, 4-6) in a CIAA game.

Rachill Robinson led Bowie State with 19 points while Chanel Turner added 17. Allyson Hardy finished with 16 points and 10 assists for the Bulldogs. Pria Stellmacher scored a game-high 24 points for Virginia Union.

Villa Julie 73, Wilson 36: The Mustangs (3-12) raced to an early 18-point lead and never looked back as they rolled past the visiting Phoenix (1-6) in a nonconference game.

Lorris Budd paced Villa Julie with 15 points and Cara Hill added 14.
