Board of Education to hold public forum at meeting tomorrow

The Board of Education will hold a regularly scheduled meeting at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the boardroom at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

The afternoon session, and an evening session, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will begin with a public forum. Members of the public can address the board on any topic for which there is no formal hearing process. Sign-up in advance is preferred.

During the evening session, the public will have an opportunity to speak about Policy 2010: Curriculum, as well as on a proposal to lengthen the school day by 15 minutes.

Comments are invited on the school system's Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program. The program is characterized as a "proactive," rather than reactive, approach to insect and rodent control in school facilities, and to weed and insect control on school grounds.

A public hearing on the superintendent's proposed 2005 operating budget will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the boardroom.

Those who want to testify on any of these issues are asked to limit the presentation to three minutes and provide 15 written copies of their testimony at the time of the hearing. To sign up to speak: 410-313-7197. The public is encouraged to participate.

The board will meet with the Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee at 7 p.m. Tuesday and with ARC of Howard County at 8 p.m. in the boardroom at the Department of Education. These meetings are open to the public.

The board will meet in closed session at 3 p.m. tomorrow and at 8 a.m. Jan. 28.
