WINE OF THE WEEK

January 21, 2004|By Michael Dresser

2001 Snoqualmie Vineyards Chardonnay, Columbia Valley ($12). This well-made, breezy, fresh chardonnay from Washington state offers stern competition to the often over-oaked California chardonnays of similar price. It's a medium-bodied but intensely flavorful wine in which the flavors of melon, pear, orange, lime and white pepper come through vividly. The crisp acidity makes it unusually refreshing for a chardonnay. It would be a great match with salmon or ham.
