Government offices, schools to be closed for the King holiday

Carroll County government offices will be closed tomorrow for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Northern Landfill and the Recycling Center will be open.

Carroll public schools, public libraries and senior centers also will be closed tomorrow.

County schedules blood drive this week

Carroll County government will hold two blood drives for both employees and the community Wednesday and Thursday in response to the Red Cross's appeal for blood.

The blood drive Wednesday will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Public Hearing Room (003/004) of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

Thursday's blood drive will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carroll County Maintenance Center, 1250 Meadow Branch Road, Westminster.

To give blood, donors must be in generally good health; be at least age 17 (or age 16 with parental consent, in Maryland); weigh at least 110 pounds; have not received a tattoo within the past year; and have not donated whole blood within 56 days.

Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome.

Legislative delegation to hold open meeting

The Carroll County delegation to Annapolis will hold its annual open meeting with the public at 9 a.m. Saturday in the public meeting room of the County Office Building, 225. N. Center St., Westminster.

The agenda will include the property transfer tax, and a public opinion survey will be taken.

Target Community sets its spring gala for March

Target Community & Educational Services Inc. will hold its annual Spring Gala 2004 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight March 6 at Martin's West on Security Boulevard in Woodlawn.

Black Tie will provide music for dancing. A silent auction will be held. Black tie is optional dress.

Tickets are $100. Tables are available from $1,000 to $5,000.

Reservations must be made by Feb. 20.
