January 13, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Two tractor-trailers overturned in separate accidents yesterday afternoon, creating traffic delays on Interstate 83 and York Road, state and county police said.

In the first incident, a driver slammed on his brakes to avoid a deer and lost control of his truck on northbound I-83 above Mount Carmel Road about 12:20 p.m., according to state police. The tractor and trailer, loaded with plastic coffee mugs, separated. The trailer overturned on the highway, spilling the load, while the truck slid down an embankment of the Gunpowder Falls, police said.

The driver was not seriously hurt, state police said. After the accident, some traffic was detoured onto York Road, where a second tractor-trailer overturned in the 17000 block about 12:30 p.m. The driver of that truck, which was carrying molding, also was not hurt, county police said. The interstate was fully reopened about 3:30 p.m.
