On December 20, 2003, JAMES OLIVERPHILLIPS, JR., life-long resident of AA Co, devoted husband for 62 years, on December 3, 2003, of Irene E. Phillips (nee Sprouse), devoted father of James O. Phillips, 3rd, Bruce W. Phillips, Nina Mitchell, and the lateDelores Lee "Scottie" Phillips and Stanley Gene "Pete" Phillips, dear son of the late James O. Phillips, Sr and Mabel Phillips (nee Grisinger), dear brother of Pat Salacuse, and the late Wesley, Charles and Ronnie Phillips. Also survived by six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Phillips died of Pancreatic Cancer at North Arundel Hospital. Born July 22, 1922, attended Jacobsville Elementary School of Lake Shore, Glen Burnie High School and Medical Technician School in Beaumont, TX. He worked for Crown, Cork & Seal from 1959-1987. He owned and operated Phillips Exterminating Co for more then 35 years. Mr. Philips served in the Army during WWII, he received Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philipino Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooter Medal. He was an amateur boxer and while serving in Beaumont, TX in the Army he was awarded the Golden Glove Award and loved boxing his whole life. Mr. Phillips was a member of VFW Post 2916, American Legion Post 40 and the MD Pest Control Association. Mr. Phillips liked to help others and enjoyed taking care of his family as well as his loyal dog, Ching. He liked to read and his favorite book was The Holy Bible. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 2 P.M. at Church on the Rock, 900 Church St., Brooklyn Park, MD.
