State police in Calvert County charged a 16-year-old boy with two counts of first-degree assault last night in two sniper-style shootings in Huntingtown, one of them apparently targeting a school bus.

Aaron Daniel Barrett, 16, of Huntingtown was charged as an adult due to the seriousness of the incidents, said Cpl. Rob Moroney. Barrett is accused of using a firearm to shoot at a bus carrying 25 students from Northern High and Northern Middle schools about 3 p.m. Thursday. The bullet did not penetrate the interior of the bus, and no one was hurt.

About five hours earlier, a 68-year-old man was driving his truck on Hunting Creek Road in the same residential area when a shot was fired at his rear window, Moroney said. The man, who was alone in the vehicle, was cut by shattered glass and treated at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.
