Raising children who are self-reliant to be sessions' focus

The Parent Resource of Howard County, a program of Jewish Family Services, will present a workshop based on "The Blessing of a Skinned Knee: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Self-Reliant Children."

Parent educator Chaya Kaplan will lead the workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Bet Yeladim Preschool, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia. The workshop is also scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 22 at Jewish Family Services, Jewish Federation of Howard County, 8950 Route 108, Suite 115, Columbia.

Praise Partners group to meet Tuesday morning

Praise Partners, a Christian business networking and fellowship group, will meet from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bob Evans in the restaurant park at Route 175 and Route 108, Columbia.

Kevin Daye, owner of Action Delivery Logistics Services, will lead a discussion on "Character in the Workplace."

Admission is free. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Christian aerobics class starting its winter session

Body & Soul Christian Aerobics, high- or low-impact aerobics and strength training to upbeat contemporary Christian music, is starting its winter session. Fees for the classes vary.

A Tuesday and Friday class meets at 9:15 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Howard County, 9325 Presbyterian Circle, Columbia, at U.S. 29 and Route 108 east.

Grace Episcopal offering low-impact aerobics

Grace Episcopal Church, 6725 Montgomery Road, Elkridge, is offering low-impact aerobics Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning next week and through Feb. 6, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at its church hall complex.

The program is presented by Forever Young Fitness Inc. Cost is $56 a session.

Journeys Community meeting at Vantage House

Journeys Community is holding services in its permanent home, the recently renovated auditorium on the second floor of Vantage House Life Care Retirement Community, 5400 Vantage Point Road, in Town Center, Columbia.

The theme for this weekend's 10 a.m. Sunday service is "I Know This Much Is True," an opportunity to reflect on what we have learned to be true in our lives.

Healing Masses offered twice each month

The Friars of the Sanctuary of St. Anthony, 12290 Folly Quarter Road near Glenelg, offer Healing Masses at 7:30 p.m. the first Friday of each month and at 3 p.m. the third Sunday of each month.

The Mass is an opportunity to be prayed over by a friar and to offer private intentions at the relic of St. Anthony in the chapel.

A Mass, followed by the blessing of the congregation with the relic of St. Anthony, is offered at noon Tuesdays.

The relic chapel is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. The friary's bookstore is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Church's gift shop is holding a bag sale

The Gift & Thrift Shoppe of Trinity Episcopal Church will hold a bag sale through March.

Bags can be filled for $2.

The shop is at 6010 Waterloo Road, at Old Montgomery Road in Columbia, behind St. John's Lutheran Church. It is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays.

First Evangelical Lutheran holding Bible study series

First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road, Ellicott City, is holding a 10-week educational series, "Crossways Bible Study: The Gospels and the Acts," from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays from Feb. 19 through March 18.

A second class will meet from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays during the same period.

The class is taught by the Rev. Glenn Ludwig.

The cost is $15.
