On January 1, 2004 RUTH, a resident of the Pickersgill Retirement Community Center. A long time resident of Towson, she was born August 16, 1910 in Latrobe, PA to the late John E. Reed and Anna E. Reed (nee Nale). A graduate of Pennsylvania State College she began her teaching career in 1933 in Westmoreland County, PA specializing in Science, Social Studies and History. In 1946 she moved to Towson, accepting a teaching position at the Park School in Brooklandville in the Lower school. In 1955, she transferred to the Upper School teaching History until her retirement in 1975. A longtime member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild and did other volunteer church work. She also did volunteer work at the old Church Home and Hospital. Devoted friend of the late Jane Ridgely Halbert and she is survived by nieces and nephews of Fountain Hills in Sun City, AZ. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be private at Unity Cemetery, Latrobe, PA.
