Community services group plans to meet at interfaith center

The Association of Community Services will hold its monthly membership meeting from noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18. The meeting will focus on education issues. Members of the Howard County Board of Education and those running for board seats in the coming election are expected to attend.

The meeting will be held at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way in Columbia. The brown bag luncheon is free to association members and the public. Individuals may preorder a lunch for $7 by calling 410-796-7824 or e-mail acs35@hotmail.com.

HCC's spring semester scheduled to start Jan. 31

Howard Community College will start its spring semester Jan. 31; late registration will be held Feb. 2 through Feb. 6.

High school stadium lights set as topic of hearings

Public hearings on the addition of stadium lights in Howard County public high schools are being held this month.

Members of the public will have up to three minutes to testify. Those who plan to speak are asked to provide 10 copies of the testimony at the time of the hearing. To sign up to testify, call the number listed below for the school, or sign up on the night of the hearing.

Those unable to attend can submit written comments to the appropriate high school by mail or e-mail. Written comments must be postmarked no later than the date of the hearing.

Hearings will be held at:

Atholton High School at 7 p.m. Monday. Hearing officer: Chuck Fales, 410-313-7080.

Centennial High School at 7 p.m. Jan. 20. Hearing officer: Jim Hill, 410-313-2861.

Glenelg High School at 7 p.m. Monday. Hearing officer: Linda Wise, 410-552-3427. The snow date is Jan. 14.

Hammond High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Hearing officer: Joe Russo, 410-313-7605.

Hearing slated tomorrow on proposed school site

The Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the boardroom to hear comment on the site proposed for the new western elementary school. The board has given preliminary approval to a 20-acre site on Ten Oaks Road in Dayton.

The hearing will be held during the 7:30 evening session of the regularly scheduled board meeting. The afternoon session is scheduled at 4 p.m.

Those who want to testify should limit their presentation to three minutes and provide 15 written copies of the testimony at the time of the hearing.
