Marvin A. Hoss of Columbia wins psychology award

Marvin A. Hoss of Hobbit's Glen, Columbia, has been recognized by the Maryland Psychological Association with the 2003 Outstanding Professional Contributions to Psychology Award.

The award is given annually to a psychologist who has distinguished himself in scholarship, research or leadership.

Hoss is professor emeritus of the Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville, where he served as director of student development and headed the counseling center for 20 years. He is a past president of the Maryland Psychological Association and continues to serve on its executive council. He is also a member of the board of directors of the statewide Pro Bono Counseling Project.

Hoss, who co-authored the book The Search For Independence, earned a doctorate from the University of Miami, where he also received a juris doctor degree.
