Republican group to hold breakfast on insurance issues

The Howard County Professional Republican Association will hold a business breakfast at 7 a.m. Friday at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel, 10207 Wincopin Circle, Columbia.

Insurance Commissioner Alfred W. Redmer Jr. will discuss insurance regulations and their impact on small businesses in Maryland.

The new organization is dedicated to assisting Howard businesses in opening a dialogue with state and local Republican officials, encouraging business leaders to seek elected office and supporting Republican candidates for elected office.

`Hunger Box' project gives shoppers a way to help

Through a Giant supermarket initiative, the "You Can Help Hunger Box" project, customers purchased boxes filled with dry grocery products, which Giant donated to area food banks. The campaign ran from Oct. 26 through Dec. 19, with 10,200 boxes sold.

As part of Giant's Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive, customers also donated money to food banks by filling out donation forms for $1, $3 or $5 and giving it a store cashier. Nonperishable food were also donated.
