Risk management for dairy producers focus of talk Jan. 14

The Frederick County Maryland Cooperative Extension will hold a Dairy Risk Management workshop for dairy producers from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Mountain Gate Restaurant in Thurmont.

Milk prices have been low and have fluctuated in recent years. This workshop will offer dairy producers information and tools to help manage the major risks in the business side of dairy farming.

Farmers can learn about changes in crop insurance that will benefit them and policies concerning various grains.

The workshop is free, but registration is required by Tuesday.

Tree seedling sale continues through Feb. 11

The Carroll Soil Conservation District is holding its 2004 tree seedling sale through Feb. 11.

Evergreen seedlings, evergreen transplants, deciduous seedlings and shrubs are available. Trees include Norway spruce, scotch pine, white pine, scarlet maple, red oak, river birch and dogwoods. Prices vary according to the type of tree and number of trees.
