Hennie R. Schneider, 81, statistician, librarian

Hennie R. Schneider, a retired statistician and librarian, died Dec. 24 of complications from a stroke at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, Ill. The Baltimore native was 81.

Born Hennie Rand and raised on Eutaw Place, she graduated from Western High School in 1939. She earned a degree in library science from the University of Maryland, College Park and a master's degree from Simmons College in Boston.

She was a statistician at the Housing Authority of Baltimore City and, later, a librarian for the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Agriculture.

Her husband of 38 years, Saul Schneider, a Holocaust survivor who owned a Washington tailoring and dry-cleaning business, died in 1989.

Services were held Dec. 26 in Pikesville.

Survivors include a son, James Schneider of Highland Park, Ill.; a sister, Abby Rand of New York City; and two grandchildren.
