HOWARD CRIME REPORT

December 31, 2003

The crime report is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-313-3700.

East Columbia

Cradlerock Way: 7100 block, Owen Brown. A clerk making a bank deposit for his employer Dec. 21 was confronted by a man asking for a cigarette. The man pushed the clerk to the ground, grabbed the bank bag containing cash and fled on foot.

Minstrel Way: 7100 block, Owen Brown. A man entered the Hopewell Exxon gas station early Sunday, displayed a handgun and demanded money. He fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

West Columbia

Barnwood Place: 5800 block, Hickory Ridge. A resident was walking through a parking lot Dec. 22 when two teen-agers approached and demanded money. They fled after not finding money on the resident.

Wilde Lake Terrace: 10300 block, Wilde Lake. Someone entered a home by forcing open a rear sliding-glass door Dec. 23 or 24. A television, food and silverware were stolen.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

Woodland Forest Drive: 6400 block, Elkridge. Someone entered a home and stole a bed, television, dresser and digital video disc player Saturday. There was no sign of forced entry.

N. Laurel/Savage/Jessup

Washington Blvd: 9700 block, North Laurel. Two men, one of whom displayed a handgun, approached a man carrying a laptop computer late Dec. 22. When the man with the lap-top realized the weapon was a pellet gun, he began wrestling with the assailants. One dropped the pellet gun and fled while the other grabbed the computer and fled. The pellet gun was recovered at the scene.

Western Howard

Birmingham Way: 10700 block, Woodstock. Two men entered the Eclectique gift shop and demanded money Dec. 22. They took an employee's cell phone and money from the cash register and fled.

Roxbury Mills Road: 2000 block, Cooksville. A man attempted to steal money from a cash register at a High's store Dec. 23, but the clerk recovered the cash after a struggle. The man fled on foot and, minutes later, knocked on the door of a residence and asked to use the phone. He grabbed the resident's cell phone and ran out the door. A search was conducted, and Todd J. Grimes of Mount Airy was arrested, police said.

Sapling Ridge Drive: 15100 block, Dayton. Someone entered the unlocked garage of a home under construction and stole two copper porch porticos between Dec. 19 and 22.
