College expands winter session to four weeks

Howard Community College has expanded its winter session to four weeks, providing an increase in the number of courses and sections available.

The winter session starts Monday and ends Jan. 30. Late registration will be available Monday and Tuesday.

The spring semester starts Jan. 31; late registration will be available Feb. 2 to 6.

The college is closed for winter break through Sunday, but telephone and Internet registration are available for newly admitted and previously enrolled credit students. In-person registration will resume Monday.

Stadium-lights hearings to be held next month

Public hearings on the addition of stadium lights in Howard County public high schools will be held next month.

Members of the public will have up to three minutes to testify. Those who plan to speak are asked to provide 10 copies of the testimony at the time of the hearing. To sign up to testify, call the number listed below for the school or sign up the night of the hearing.

Those unable to attend can submit written comments to the appropriate high school by mail or e-mail. Written comments must be postmarked no later than the date of the hearing.

Proposed school site to be subject of hearing

The Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 in the boardroom to hear comments on the site proposed for the new western elementary school. The board has given preliminary approval to a 20-acre site on Ten Oaks Road in Dayton.

The hearing will be held during the evening session of the regularly scheduled board meeting. The afternoon session is to start at 4 p.m.

Those who want to testify should limit their presentation to three minutes and provide 15 written copies of the testimony at the time of the hearing.

School calendar hearing is planned for Jan. 8

A hearing on the proposed 2004-2005 school calendar will be held as part of the 7:30 evening session of the board's regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 8. The public is encouraged to attend.

The calendar will be available for viewing on the school system's Web site, www.hcpss.org.
