Coming in handy

The Chargers' LaDainian Tomlinson became the first halfback in NFL history to catch 100 passes. And he broke his own club record for combined yards with 2,370. He has four 200-yard rushing games, tying him for second place on the career list with Jim Brown, Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders. The record is six, by O.J. Simpson.

Five-digit man

The Titans' Eddie George is the 17th NFL player with 10,000 career rushing yards. The other active running backs over 10,000 yards rushing are Emmitt Smith, Jerome Bettis, Curtis Martin and Marshall Faulk.

Giant slide

The Giants finished the season with eight straight losses for the first time since 1966, when the team was 1-12-1.

Unlucky seven

The Jets lost seven games this season by seven points or fewer.

Not measuring up

The Falcons set a team record by allowing 6,108 yards this season.

Hopeful sign

Despite missing the playoffs, the Bengals finished with their best record since 1996.

10-6 doesn't do it

The Dolphins are the first team since Philadelphia and San Francisco in 1991 to win 10 games and miss the playoffs.

Hot debut

The Cardinals' Anquan Boldin caught five passes to tie the franchise single-season record of 101 set by Larry Centers in 1995.

Holmes sets TD records

Kansas City running back Priest Holmes (above) set the NFL record for touchdowns in a season with 27, scoring twice in the Chiefs' victory over the Chicago Bears yesterday. The former Raven passed Emmitt Smith's record for rushing touchdowns with a 1-yard run in the first quarter. He erased the record of 26 overall TDs, set by Marshall Faulk in 2000, with a 2-yard run in the third quarter.
