Mount Airy troop honors new Eagle Scout

December 26, 2003

Mount Airy Boy Scout Troop 1191 recently held a Court of Honor for Steven Louis Cohen for earning his Eagle Scout rank.

His Eagle project was done at Beth Shalom Synagogue, which needed to divide a section of its cemetery for interfaith families. He researched the project and planned a 150-foot shrub line in the cemetery.

Steven conducted the project during the synagogue's clean-up and beautification day. Volunteers from the synagogue, Troop 1191, friends and family contributed 204 hours planting shrubs and beautifying the grounds.

He also arranged for donations from area businesses for supplies, equipment, money and food for the workers.

Steven was honored with a citation from the governor and a flag that flew over the nation's Capitol from Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett's office. The Eagle award was presented to Steven at Beth Shalom by his grandfather, Harvey Cohen, a U. S. Navy veteran.

Steven is a student at South Carroll High School.
