Five charged in theft after chase on I-270, Beltway

ASPEN HILL - Montgomery County police chased down and arrested five suspects believed to be involved in a Christmas morning burglary of an Aspen Hill motorcycle shop.

A witness saw five men break a window at the large showroom of Cycles USA on Georgia Avenue and load two small motorcycles into their Chevrolet Suburban just before 5 a.m. yesterday. Police quickly put out the car's description and followed the Suburban on a high-speed chase along Interstate 270 and then onto the Capital Beltway. After twice hitting a police car - but not injuring the officer inside - the Suburban crashed into a guardrail at the River Road exit.

Those arrested are Everett Wilkinson, 21, of Washington; Levern Butler, 19, of Washington; Aaron Dyson, 17, of Suitland; Cordell Cook, 15, of Washington; and Derius Joseph, 17, of Forestville. All five were charged with burglary, theft and other crimes; and all three juveniles were charged as adults. Wilkinson, the Suburban's driver, was also charged with resisting arrest and first-degree and second-degree assault on the officer whose car was hit.
