Health Department ends flu-season vaccination program

The county Department of Health has ended its flu vaccination program. The department will no longer offer vaccinations at its clinics or health centers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages health care workers and those at high risk of complications from influenza to receive flu vaccinations.

Individuals seeking vaccinations are encouraged to contact their private physician or health care provider. Healthy people ages 5 to 49 can use the new nasal flu vaccine mist.

North Arundel Hospital offers health screenings

North Arundel Hospital will offer health screenings at various locations next month.

Jan. 14, 8:30 a.m., to noon, free blood pressure screenings, Harundale Presbyterian Church, Eastway and Guilford Road, Glen Burnie.

Jan. 15, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., blood pressure screenings, Relaxation Station, Marley Station mall.

Jan. 16, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., free computerized neck and back screenings, O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton.

Jan. 20, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., free foot screenings, Pascal Senior Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie.

Jan. 20, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., free security and safety seminar, Pasadena Senior Center. Reservations are required. 410-222- 0030.

Jan. 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., osteoporosis screenings, the hospital's Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center, third floor, Reservations are required. The cost is $20 (make checks payable to North Arundel Hospital). 410-787-4367.

Health-related events set at Arundel Mills mall

North Arundel Hospital offers screenings and educational exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront between Jillian's and mall entrance No. 4.

Today, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Jan. 2, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., therapists will offer neck and back massages, along with information about the benefits of massage therapy.

Jan. 5, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., information on arthritis and joint replacement surgery; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure and anemia screenings; and 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., story time for parents and children.

Jan. 6, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Jan. 8, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., back screenings.

Jan. 9, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., back and neck screenings.

Jan. 12, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Jan. 13, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Jan. 14, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., information on colon cancer; 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., discussion on diabetes and diet; and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., cholesterol screenings.

Jan. 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., blood pressure screenings, and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., blood pressure and lung capacity screenings.

Jan. 15, 8 a.m., Arundel Mills will celebrate the third anniversary of the Mills Milers Walking Program (in the Food Court); and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the county Department of Aging will offer information on its services and answer questions.

Jan. 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

Jan. 22, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the hospital's human resources department will present a job fair.

Jan. 26, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

The county Health Department offers 13 health information kits. Available kits include:

Healthy Eating Kit: Contains healthful recipes and menu ideas, and cancer-prevention ideas.

Women's Health Kit: Features facts on breast and cervical cancer prevention, screenings, immunization information and tips for healthy skin and bones.
