Asheville, NC. WILLIAM FALCONER (Fal) BAIRD, JR., 97 years of age, died at Mountain Area Hospice December 13, 2003 of natural causes. Fal Baird, a resident of Baltimore, MD until 1991 lived with his son and daughter-in-law Rod & Bess Baird and their children Grant & Amber. His wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Rodgers Baird died in 1990. Born March 25, 1906, he was the last survivor of the four children of William F. and Martha Baird of Baltimore. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1928 and spent his working career with the Baird Seating Company of Baltimore. He served with honor in the Navy from 1943-46 aboard the U.S. Patoka. His extensive volunteer activities included serving as President of the North Baltimore Kiwanis Club and as Chairman of the Salvation Army's Red Shield Boys Club. He was also an enthusiastic classroom volunteer at Isaac Dickson Elementary School. In addition to being a devoted father and gardener, Fal was a life long fly fisherman and introduced the sport to his many friends. The family is hosting a Scottish Wake in his honor at their Asheville home on January 10th from 2 to 6 PM. A Graveside Interment Service at Govans Presbyterian Church in Baltimore is planned for March 13th. Friends are encouraged to contact the family at 828-253-7152 for details.
