Ricky Tippett

wrestling Tippett set himself up for what should be another standout season, winning the 140-pound weight class at Saturday's Ray Oliver Tournament, hosted by McDonogh.

The senior, top-ranked at 140, captured a 5-3 decision over Centennial's Evan Bulger to become a four-time champion at the tournament and improve his record this season to 4-0.

A first-team All-Metro selection last season after going 43-4, Tippett helped the second-ranked Eagles win the Oliver tournament with 231 1/2 points. He won his first two matches with pins before earning a 17-5 major decision over Trevor Reese in the semifinals.

Tippett, who finished first in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championships, first in the private schools state championships and third at the National Preps last season, has a career record of 109-16 with 47 pins.
