Police seek 3 men in armed robbery bid at supermarket

December 16, 2003|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

City police were seeking at least three men who attempted to rob a Safeway supermarket in the Canton section of Southeast Baltimore last night - one of them firing a gun inside the store.

No one was hurt, and the men fled without getting any money, police said.

About 11:15 p.m., the men entered the store in the 2600 block of Boston St. and announced a holdup. One man displayed a large-caliber handgun and fired more than one shot in an attempt to force an employee to give up money.

For an unknown reason, the men fled the store and were seen riding away on Boston Street in a dark Subaru with unknown tags, police said.

Anyone with information about the holdup attempt was urged to call the Southeastern District at 410-396-2422.
