Health-related events set at Arundel Mills mall

North Arundel Hospital offers screenings and educational exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront between Jillian's and mall entrance No. 4.

Jan. 2, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., therapists will offer neck and back massages, along with information about the benefits of massage therapy.

Jan. 5, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., information on arthritis and joint replacement surgery; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure and anemia screenings; and 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., story time for parents and children.

Jan. 6, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Jan. 8, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., back screenings.

Jan. 9, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., back and neck screenings.

Jan. 12, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Jan. 15, 8 a.m., Arundel Mills will celebrate the third anniversary of the Mills Milers Walking Program (in the Food Court); and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the county Department of Aging will offer information on its services and answer questions.

Jan. 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

Jan. 22, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the hospital's human resources department will present a job fair.

Jan. 26, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Health Department offers health information kits

The county Health Department offers 13 health information kits. Available kits include:

Healthy Eating Kit: Contains healthful recipes and menu ideas, and cancer-prevention ideas.

Women's Health Kit: Features facts on breast and cervical cancer prevention, screenings, immunization information and tips for healthy skin and bones.

Colorectal Cancer Kit: Provides brochures on the risk factors and prevention of the disease. It also contains information on nutrition and exercise.

Fifty-Plus Health: Features health and wellness tips for older people, including exercise safety, oral health and men's cancer prevention.

Safe-in-the-Sun Kit: Offers guidelines for prevention of skin cancer in children and adults.

Overcoming Colorectal Cancer in the Korean Community: A bilingual brochure on prevention and treatment of colon cancer.

Teen Quit Kit, Quit-Smoking Kit for adults, Spanish language Quit-Smoking Kit, Xtreme Quitting Kit for young adults, Clean Lung Kit for African-Americans and Smoke-Free Kids Activity Kit for parents.

Red Cross schedules CPR, first aid class

Courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid have been scheduled for this month at several sites in Anne Arundel County by the Red Cross of Central Maryland. They include:

Adult, infant and child CPR: Provides training for use with victims of all ages in a variety of emergency situations, including how to perform rescue breathing, clear an obstructed airway and perform one-rescuer CPR. The class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Edgewater. The cost is $40.
