DESIGNATED HITTER AWARD: Was given to Red Sox's David Ortiz.

ROBERT O. FISHEL AWARD: Honor for public relations excellence went to Rick Vaughn, Devil Rays' VP of public relations and a former Orioles PR director.

BRAVES: Acquired OF J.D. Drew and C-OF Eli Marrero from Cardinals for P Jason Marquis, P Adam Wainwright and P Ray King.

MARLINS: Traded OF Juan Encarnacion to Dodgers for player to be named.

METS: Agreed to three-year, $19.5 million contract with free-agent OF Mike Cameron, who had been with Mariners.

ORIOLES: Added former Orioles P Todd Frohwirth and former Yankees scout Gus Quattelbaum to professional scouting staff, joining Bruce Kison, Gary Roenicke and Fred Uhlman Sr. Each will cover six major league clubs and their top minor league affiliates.

RANGERS: Signed P Justin Thompson to minor league contract.

RED SOX: Agreed to three-year, $24 million contract with mutual option for 2007 with free-agent P Keith Foulke, who had been with Athletics.

TIGERS: Agreed to two-year contract with free-agent OF Rondell White, who had been with Royals.

YANKEES: Acquired P Kevin Brown from Dodgers for P Jeff Weaver, P Yhency Brazoban, a player to be named and $2.6 million.


CELTICS: Placed F Raef LaFrentz on injured list with sore knee.

TIMBERWOLVES: Signed C Oliver Miller. Placed C Michael Olowokandi on injured list after right knee surgery.


GEORGIA STATE: Dedicated basketball court to Lefty Driesell, former Maryland coach who resigned as Panthers coach Jan. 3.


BUCCANEERS: Activated DT Cleveland Pinkney from practice squad. Released WR Marvin "Snoop" Minnis.

DOLPHINS: Signed DE Tony Brown to two-year contract.

LIONS: Placed G Eric Beverly on IR. Activated CB Leonard Myers from practice squad.


NHL: Suspended Rangers D Boris Mironov two games and Sabres C Adam Mair one game for roles in high-sticking incident Friday.

BLUE JACKETS: Reassigned RW Kent McDonell to AHL Syracuse.
