Community band to present concert today at high school

The Bel Air Community Band will present a winter concert featuring a variety of contemporary and traditional band and wind ensemble music appropriate to the season at the C. Milton Wright High School auditorium at 3 p.m. today.

The band will perform under the direction of Scott Sharnetzka.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $1 for age 17 and younger. Proceeds will benefit the Harford Community College Music Scholarship Fund.

Harford Dance Theatre to hold concert auditions

Harford Dance Theatre of Harford Community College will hold auditions for its spring dance concert, Canvases 2004, from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 10 in the rehearsal space at the Amoss Center.

Canvases 2004, a choreographic collage of original works, will be performed April 3.

Auditions are open to dancers age 13 and older, with at least two years of dance training in either ballet or modern and jazz. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the audition will include a warm-up, followed by dance combinations demonstrated by the choreographers.

Bel Air chocolate fest scheduled for Jan. 24

The Bel Air Downtown Revitalization Alliance will hold its Downtown Bel Air Chocolate Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Bel Air National Guard Armory, 37 N. Main St.

The festival features samples of chocolate confections and desserts created by regional establishments. More than 3,000 people attended last year's festival.

`H.M.S. Pinafore' sets sail next month at college

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players will present the musical H.M.S. Pinafore at 8 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Amoss Center on Thomas Run Road at Harford Community College.

The production features an orchestra conducted by Albert Bergeret, who co-founded the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players in 1974.

Ticket prices range from $17 to $35 and are available at the cashier's office in the Student Center and the HCC Ticket Office in the Chesapeake Center (College will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 4).
