County, town leaders to discuss services and needs Tuesday

The Carroll County Council of Governments will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Room 157-159 at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road.

Dorothy Stoltz, chairwoman of the Carroll County Local Management Board, will discuss the Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County and its coordination of a community strengths and needs assessment.

Representatives from the Carroll County Health Department also will discuss plans to prepare for the 2004 West Nile virus season.

The Carroll County Planning Department and Growth Task Force will give an update on the county's adequacy process, standards and development review.

Town processes for testing adequacy and related issues also will be discussed.

The Council of Governments is made up of representatives of the eight incorporated municipalities, the county commissioners, and Freedom Area Citizens and Finksburg Planning Area councils.

CASA ball Jan. 17 to honor county's community heroes

The Community Foundation of Carroll County will sponsor a "Carroll County Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit Heroes Ball" starting at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at Martin's Westminster.

The evening will begin with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres, and continue with dinner at 6:45 p.m., presentations at 7:45 p.m., and dancing to the music of Gene Vincent & the Cadillac Cruisers, with Gene's Road House Horns, at 8:30 p.m.

The ball is being held to honor the county's community heroes. City, county and state dignitaries, and local leaders from law enforcement and the legal profession, are expected to attend.

Proceeds will benefit the CASA fund. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table for 10. Reservations are required by Jan. 7. Information: 410-876-5505.
