Real estate company conducting its 14th Toys for Tots drive

Long & Foster is conducting its 14th Toys for Tots drive throughout the company's seven-state Mid-Atlantic region. Toys can be dropped off at any of 200 Long & Foster sales offices through Dec. 17.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage offices in Maryland, Virginia, Washington and Delaware are also drop-off points for donations to the Toys for Tots program.

Toys will be collected at the company's Howard County offices in Columbia, Ellicott City and elsewhere until Dec. 15.

The toys, which must be new and unwrapped, will be distributed by U.S. Marines to churches, social welfare agencies and financially and physically disadvantaged children.

State dairy association annual meeting Dec. 16

The Maryland Dairy Industry Association's annual meeting is scheduled Dec. 16 at the Carroll County Extension Center in Westminster.

The theme is "Sharing Successful Ideas for Profitable Dairying." Dairy producers and specialists will provide practical information on producing high-quality milk, managing manure and waste under new regulations and improving herd health.

The cost is $15. Registration is requested.

Grocery store offering check-cashing services

Safeway Inc. is offering check-cashing services in its Eastern Division stores in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania, becoming the largest check-cashing provider in Maryland, according to a company news release. Seventy-six stores are offering the service.

Government and payroll checks can be cashed at the stores' customer service counters for a fee of $2 per $200. Checks up to $1,499 will be cashed. Typed, handwritten or tax refund checks are not accepted.

CopyWrite company serves small businesses

CopyWrite Communications, an Elkridge-based marketing communications and public relations consulting company, opened in June.

The company, owned and operated by Cheryl Balassone, focuses on small and new businesses in need of cost-effective services. Brochures, newsletters, presentations, speeches, script development, sales training materials and advertising services are offered.
