Fire department to hold breakfast with Santa today

The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department's breakfast with Santa, canceled yesterday because of the weather, will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. today in the fire hall on Route 32.

All tickets purchased in advance will be honored today. Tickets will be available at the door for $7 for adults and $5 for children.

The menu will include french toast sticks, bacon, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, fruit cocktail and beverages.

The breakfast replaces the fire department's neighborhood visits with Santa on a fire engine.

County Democrats to meet Thursday in Westminster

The Carroll County Democratic Central Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Senior Center.

Democrats interested in serving as delegates to the national convention in Boston next summer are encouraged to attend. Information about being a delegate will be given at the committee's monthly meeting.

County announces two roads projects

The Carroll County Department of Public Works has announced road work projects for this week.

Deer Park Road from Route 32 to Route 91 will undergo shoulder paving at various locations. Information: Bureau of Engineering, 410-386-2171.

Old New Windsor Road from Route 31 to the New Windsor town line will be milled and patched in preparation for an overlay project. Information: Bureau of Roads Operations, 410-386-6717.

Volunteer Carroll plans visits to county libraries

Volunteer Carroll, a focal point for connecting county residents with volunteer opportunities, will visit public library branches this fall to acquaint people with the organization and to publicize volunteer needs in the community.

Information on volunteer opportunities for all ages, as well as student service-learning projects, will be available. Volunteer Carroll staff will answer questions.

Library visits will be made on the second Thursday and third Saturday of the month as follows:

Eldersburg, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive: from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.

Mount Airy, 705 Ridge Ave.: from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 20.

Farm musuem offers holiday teas, tours

The Carroll County Farm Museum will hold holiday teas this year in the Carroll Room, a Victorian tea parlor.

The Holiday Tour Tea will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 16, 17 and 18. The tea includes sweet treats, choice of a variety of teas, holiday music and a guided tour of the decorated farmhouse.

Groups of eight or more can make reservations for a private tea. Groups of fewer than eight will be seated with other guests. The cost is $10. Registration is required.

The farm museum gift shop also will be open during the teas.
