Local Grange members attend national session

Members of local Grange organizations recently attended the National Grange session in Burlington, Vt., for several days of business meetings, election of officers and workshops.

Those attending included: Faye Reese, Tom Reese, John and Jackie Matthews, Helen Eyler, Linganore Grange; Louisa Isennock, Mary and Cliff Isennock, Jarrettsville Grange; Herb and Mary-Lou Pletcher, Medford Grange; Betty and John Thompson, New Market Grange; Roger Troxell, a state delegate, Thurmont Grange.

John Thompson also is a member of the national executive committee.

The Grange is an agricultural fraternity for men and women emphasizing the family.

Field crop conference set Dec. 17 in Virginia

Farmers, crop advisers and others interested in corn, soybean and small grains production are invited to attend the Northern Piedmont Area Field Crop Conference on Dec. 17 at the Fauquier County Fairgrounds in Warrenton, Va.

Registration and exhibits will open at 8 a.m., and the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension offices in the Northern Piedmont region.

The day will include presentations on: sustainable soils management practices; weeds; soybeans; the Virginia Tech Corn Silage Hybrid testing program; the outlook for corn, soybean and small grain prices for next year; crop insurance; fertilizer programs and costs; and a safety and legal update for certified pesticide applicators.

An industry, government and agency trade show with exhibit booths and equipment dealer displays also will be featured.

The field day is free to those with an interest in field crop production. Registration is requested by Friday for planning purposes.
