Terrapins sweep American, move to second round of NCAA tournament

Maryland's volleyball team kept its season going with a three-game sweep of American in the first round of the NCAA tournament, 30-24, 30-25, 30-28, yesterday in College Park.

Lynnsy Jones had 16 kills for the Terrapins, who improved to 27-7 and will face Colorado State (29-4) in the second round tonight at 7 at Comcast Center.

Maryland, the Atlantic Coast Conference champion, led most of the first two games before rallying from 28-25 down to win Game 3. Lauren Wilson served out the match with a four-point streak. On an earlier rotation, she had brought Maryland from a 16-12 deficit to an 18-17 lead.

Maria DiLivio added 10 kills, 12 digs and five service aces for the Terps.

Colorado State defeated George Mason, 30-22, 30-24, 30-25, in its first-round match.
