1. St. Frances

Last season: 26-2, ranked No. 1

The Panthers had a lock on the top spot all of last season, and if anything has changed, it's that they are even further above the pack now.

2. Woodlawn

Last season: 24-1, No. 3

With everybody back, the Warriors are hungry for a state title after finishing second in Class 4A last season.

3. Arundel

Last season: 22-4, No. 2

Despite significant losses from last year's Class 4A semifinalist team, look for the Wildcats to be right back in the hunt.

4. Roland Park

Last season: 18-8, No. 9

With a starting five between 5-10 and 6 feet, the Reds will be a tall order for most opponents to reach.

5. Western

Last season: 21-5, No. 11

A more balanced offense and a stronger inside game should keep the Doves out front in Baltimore City.

6. Seton Keough

Last season: 16-10, No. 12

The Gators' devastating defense always makes them a threat to contend in the IAAM A Conference.

7. South River

Last season: 13-10, unranked

Strong in the post and dangerous on the perimeter, the Seahawks will challenge in Anne Arundel County.

8. Inst. of N. Dame

Last season: 21-7, No. 4

Last season's IAAM A Conference runners-up have some rebuilding to do, but they should remain in contention.

9. Milford Mill

Last season: 22-4, No. 6

With a balanced team, the Millers could be on their way to the state final for the seventh straight year.

10. Arch. Spalding

Last season: 14-11, No. 13

Despite being young and less experienced than in recent years, the Cavaliers have the chemistry to compete in the IAAM A Conference.

11. Long Reach

Last season: 15-8, unranked

With a versatile offense, the Lightning has the potential to win its first Howard County crown.

12. Westminster

Last season: 15-10, unranked

The veteran Owls have left last season's internal problems behind in their quest for another Carroll County championship.

13. River Hill

Last season: 21-4, No. 5

Despite a rebuilding season, the Hawks can never be counted out in the race for the Howard County title.

14. St. Mary's

Last season: 20-12, No. 18

The backcourt is solid, so if the Saints can pick up a few more rebounds, they could be in the IAAM A Conference race.

15. Catonsville

Last season: 16-8, No. 20

With a seasoned backcourt and some young talent, the Comets should continue to contend in Baltimore County.

16. Meade

Last season: 18-6, No. 14

Young and athletic, the Mustangs will try to press their way into contention in Anne Arundel County.

17. McDonogh

Last season: 14-11, No. 19

Can a new coach and some new young talent put the Eagles back into the mix in the IAAM A Conference?

18. Poly

Last season: 14-8, unranked

After a strong summer together, the Engineers take aim at next-door neighbor Western and the rest of the city league.

19. Severna Park

Last season: 19-5, No. 10

The Falcons will have to rebuild fast to stay in contention in the Anne Arundel County race.

20. Dunbar

Last season: 23-4, No. 16
