State football championship

Today

No. 1 Broadneck (13-0) vs. Damascus (11-2)

Class: 4A

Where: M&T Bank Stadium

Time: 7 p.m.

Admission: $8

Outlook: Junior Matt Reidy is Damascus' leading rusher with 1,532 yards and 19 touchdowns; he had 182 yards and three TDs in last week's stunning 21-14 upset of Eleanor Roosevelt. Reidy, who moved from receiver to tailback in the fifth game, has six other TDs receiving, on punt and kick returns and one via a return of one of his team-leading six interceptions. Broadneck doesn't have such a standout, but rather a host of reliable players who execute their roles well. The Bruins like to control the football with sophomore RB Brandon Johnson, who scored four TDs in last week's 41-14 romp over Woodlawn. Johnson (1,340 rushing yards) averages 21 carries a game. The defense swarms to the ball with LBs Tyler Moyer (85 tackles) and Nick Sowells (60 tackles, 11 sacks). Kyle Bloomfield (51 tackles, seven interceptions) anchors the secondary. With K Chris Desautels (11 field goals) and punter Dan Rosenblum, who averages 32.5 yards but is an expert at placement, the Bruins have the kicking edge. Damascus beat Broadneck, 25-7, in last year's playoffs, the last time the Bruins lost.
