Area farms offer a wide selection of Christmas trees

If your DVD copy of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation has you in a tree-cutting mood, then gather up the fam and head out to one of these local cut-and-haul farms.

Just make sure that you know how high your ceilings are before you decide on that perfect specimen.

For guidance, check out our annual guide to the area's choose-your-own tree farms. As in years past, we suggest you call ahead to ensure that the type of tree you're looking for is still available.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

Friendship Trees

6950 Old Solomons Island Road, Friendship.

This site, which will be open this year only Dec. 13-17, offers Douglas and Fraser fir trees, as well as white pine and Norway spruce varieties. Wreaths and roping are also for sale.

Nicholson Tree Farm

Little Road, Bristol-Deale

This farm is located on a tiny Anne Arundel County road, aptly named "Little." This year's selection includes Scotch and white pines as well as Fraser, Douglas and Canaan firs. Wreaths, Christmas cactus and poinsettias are also for sale.

BALTIMORE COUNTY

All Timber Hill Farm

19937 Old York Road, White Hall.

This farm offers a wide variety of trees, from Douglas and Fraser firs to blue and Norway spruces. Wreaths and roping are for sale, as are hamburgers, hotdogs, cookies and drinks on the weekends. The site also offers weekend horse and wagon rides, which are free with a purchase of $25 or more.

Elliott's Ventura Farm

Pets are welcome at this location, which offers thousands of choose-and-cut trees to pick from. In addition to spruce and fir varieties, this purveyor also offers centerpieces, wreaths and roping.

Feezers Farm

Spruce, fir and pine varieties abound at this picturesque farm, where the owners serve complimentary hot chocolate to tree-hunting guests.

Frostee Tree Farm

8926 Cowenton Ave., Perry Hall.

White pine, Douglas fir and blue spruce are just a few varieties available at this Baltimore County location.

Green Hill Farm

Roping, holly, wreaths and greens are for sale at this site, which features fir, pine and spruce trees from 5 feet to 9 feet tall.

Jones' Christmas Tree Plantation

16500 Old York Road, Monkton.

Picnickers and leashed pets are welcome at this scenic farm where aromatic Christmas trees of all sizes and varieties are grown for the cutting. The child-friendly site also has weekend pony rides, a jungle gym and a kid-sized wooden train.

Martin's Tree Farm

Pine and fir varieties are for sale at this tree farm on Falls Road. Wagon rides, snacks and wreaths are also available, but bring cash as no credit cards are accepted.

Mount Carmel Tree Farm

This farm offers everything from trees and centerpieces to greens and holly. Saturdays and Sundays, food and drinks are also available for those who work up an appetite while picking out that perfect tree.

This farm offers Douglas firs from 5 to 9 feet tall. Roping and wreaths are also available, and baling is free.

Davidson Christmas Tree Farm

Pine, fir and spruce trees up to 12 feet are for sale at this family-run farm, where a snack and craft barn is also open. Wreaths, greens and roping are for sale, and drilling the tree's base to accommodate the tree-stand spike is free.
