Taxpayers association meeting to feature financial speaker

The Carroll County Taxpayers Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Westminster Senior Center.

The speaker will be Harvey Tegeler, president of Interstate Financial Services.

The Carroll County Taxpayers Association is an affiliate of the Maryland Taxpayers Association, a group of citizens who monitor tax legislation at the local level.

All property owners and interested citizens are welcome.

County Commissioners to meet with citizens

The Carroll County Commissioners will hold a series of community meetings around the county to hear comments and listen to citizen concerns on issues that affect the county.

The next meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Airy Senior Center, 703 Ridge Ave.

Holiday greens brochure available from county

The "Christmas Trees & Holiday Greens in Carroll County, Maryland" brochure is now available through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism office and Carroll County Public Library branches.

The brochure lists 17 farms or agribusinesses that offer cut-your-own Christmas trees and fresh-cut greens. Included for each farm listing are dates and times open, directions, trees and sizes available and other offerings.

A Carroll County map with the location of each farm also is provided.

Historical society lunch on Christmases past

The Historical Society of Carroll County will hold its monthly box lunch talk at noon Dec. 9 at Church of the Ascension at 23 N. Court St., Westminster.

Don Stenley will look at the cards and decorations used in Christmases past around the county.

Participants should bring a lunch. Beverage and dessert will be provided. Admission is $2 for nonmembers; free for historical society members. Reservations are recommended.

Public meeting to discuss 2004 legislative proposals

The Carroll County Commissioners will hold a public meeting to discuss the legislative proposals for the 2004 Maryland General Assembly session at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the public meeting room of the Carroll County Office Building.

Proposals include: forward funding for roads; cost recovery for court-ordered abatement of zoning and permit violations; abatement of nuisances; transfer tax; amendment of 3-206 of the county code to revise the name of the Carroll County Volunteer Firemen's Association; and the annual bond authorization.
