Outreach team to assist victims of Isabel

November 30, 2003|By Stephanie Tracy | Stephanie Tracy,SUN STAFF

Victims of Tropical Storm Isabel have another resource for help in efforts to rebuild after the devastating storm.

The Isabel Outreach Team provides emotional support and resources for residents still picking up the pieces. Through individual and group presentations, the team gives people tools to reduce stress and understand the common emotional effects of traumatic events. The team also provides resource information on disaster assistance, stress management and assistance for children trying to cope with major life changes brought on by the storm.

Outreach teams are composed of community members who have been trained by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The Isabel Outreach Team will also be assisted by the Anne Arundel County Human Services Core team, which includes representatives of the Human Services Office, Community and Constituent Services and the Department of Social Services.

The Isabel Outreach Team will provide assistance in Baltimore, Baltimore County and Dorchester County in addition to Anne Arundel.
