St. John's tutor to give lecture on Thucydides' work

St. John's College will present a lecture, "The Erotic Theme in Thucydides' Peloponnesian War," at 8:15 p.m. Friday. The lecture will be given by St. John's tutor Paul Ludwig in Francis Scott Key Auditorium in Mellon Hall, 60 College Ave., Annapolis.

Ludwig has bachelor's degrees in mathematics and English from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and a master's degree in English and modern languages from Oxford University.

He is also a recipient of a Rhodes scholarship, a Mellon Fellowship for the Humanities, a John M. Olin Foundation Faculty Fellowship, and several Earhart Foundation Fellowship Research grants.

School health staff recognized for service

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health recently recognized school health staff for their outstanding achievements in serving public school students during the 2002-03 school year.

Pat O'Berry, the school nurse for Germantown, Rolling Knolls and West Annapolis elementary schools, was named "School Nurse of the Year." O'Berry, a Crofton resident, has worked with the school health department since 1995.

The "Health Assistant of the Year" was Kathy Huggard, a Severn resident and a health assistant at Waugh Chapel Elementary. Huggard has worked with the department for seven years.

Gail Ward of West River was the "Physically Disabled Student Aide of the Year." Ward has been with the department since 1988 and is an aide at South River High School.

The program also recognized 20 school health employees for five years of service, and 31 staff members received certificates for perfect attendance.
