PATRICIA ANN JANIS, 59, a resident of Lexington, SC and previously of Baltimore and Annapolis, died November 20 in Lexington, SC, after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Janis was born in Baltimore on November 16, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Virgil E. and Teresa M. Kernan. She attended the Institute of Notre Dame Grammar School, graduated from St. Mary's High School in Annapolis in 1962 and graduated from Strayer University in 1966. She worked for several local companies while living in Maryland, for the American Red Cross in New Jersey as an owner/operator for the Divemaster of Jamaica in Negril, Jamaica and for the Deland Beacon in Florida as a free-lance writer. She was the much-beloved wife of James D. Janis of Annapolis whom she married on December 23, 1983. They lived in Annapolis, Arnold, Tampa Bay, FL, Deland, FL and Lexington, SC during their careers. Her interest were everything in the plant and animal family, (she was an expert), creating stained glass pieces, custom jewelry-making, making paper designs and organization. They had four large birds and four cats. Surviving are her husband, James, formerly of Annapolis and his family; and her sister Kathleen Hopkins of Annapolis. A Memorial Service is planned during the Christmas season at St. Anne's on Church Circle.
