The driver of a luxury sedan was fatally injured and his female passenger seriously injured last night when the car was struck by a delivery truck in Fallston, state police reported.

The collision occurred about 8 p.m. when the driver of a northbound 1996 Lincoln Town Car attempted to make a sudden U-turn in front of a United Parcel Service truck on Fallston Road (Route 152) near Hess Road.

Police said the car was struck on the driver's side by the truck.

The occupants of the Lincoln were flown by two state police Medevac helicopters to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where the driver died and the woman was admitted in serious condition. The truck driver was not injured, police said.

Traffic was detoured from the scene for at least three hours while a state police crash reconstruction team investigated the accident.

Names of the drivers and the injured woman were not released.
